Scotia Pool will continue to splash in Colchester County
BIBLE HILL, NS - Scotia Pool, on the campus of the Nova Scotia Agriculture College, will receive $100,000 in funding this year from the MacDonald Government to continue offering services to local residents.
The rising cost of fuel and building maintenance has put increased pressure on the operation of the pool.
Colchester County MLAs Karen Casey, Brooke Taylor, and Jamie Muir worked together to secure additional funding.
“Scotia Pool is an important facility for a number of Colchester communities,” said Ms. Casey, Progressive Conservative MLA for Colchester North. “The pool maintains an active and full program of events for users of all ages.”
Members of the community who use the pool will not experience any interruption in service.
“Scotia Pool is an important part of an active, healthy lifestyle for people in the community,” says Brooke Taylor, MLA for Colchester-Musquodoboit Valley. “For many people, it is a way to stay fit and socialize.”
The public makes up nearly 90 percent of the pool patrons, while students and staff from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College make up the other 10 percent.
Contract Awarded for Valley Crossroads Intersection Improvements
TRURO – One of the busiest intersections in Colchester North will soon be safer thanks to a contract awarded by the MacDonald Government, Colchester North MLA Karen Casey said today.
S.W. Weeks Construction Ltd., has been awarded the contract to widen, install signal lights and repave the Valley Crossroads Intersection. Work crews from NS Power have already been on site and construction is scheduled to begin soon.
“Our government committed to provide safe access to both truck and passenger vehicles in the community of Valley and with this contract, we are delivering on that commitment,” Mrs. Casey said. “Improving this busy intersection has been a priority for local residents and businesses and I am very pleased to see the project moving ahead.”
The new design of the intersection will allow emergency control of the lights by the Valley-Kemptown Fire Department to ensure safe and timely travel by their members and response vehicles in times of emergency.
This project is expected to be complete by the end of October.
The Department of Transportation and Public Works highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provides services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
MacDonald Government Invests in North Shore Arena
TRURO – Residents on the North Shore will have an improved arena facility thanks to significant funding from the MacDonald government, Colchester North MLA Karen Casey said today.
Under the Recreational Facility Development program at the Department of Health Promotion and Protection, the North Shore Recreation Centre, in Tatamagouche, will receive $131,000 for arena upgrades.
“This investment will give local residents a better, safer place to get physically active,” Mrs. Casey said. “And we know that active people are healthier people. This will be a great asset to the community.”
The recreation facility development grant program provides up to one-third of capital costs; communities are responsible for raising the rest. The program will help create about $14.5 million in construction through 84 organizations.
The grant program helps municipalities and community groups plan, construct, renovate, conserve or acquire facilities for public recreation. Eligible projects include community centres, pools, sport facilities, parks, playgrounds, trails and other outdoor facilities.
