“The new Veterans Memorial Field will be completed this spring,” said MacDonald, standing next to the site where clearing has already begun. “It will be a great new addition to recreational infrastructure in our area.”
The new field will include a backstop, canteen, washrooms and dugouts with equipment storage and fencing around the infield.
“My government takes physical fitness and health promotion very seriously,” added MacDonald. “Our investments in recreational infrastructure are designed to help people lead healthy, active lives.”
The Premier noted that starting in 2009, every adult participating in organized recreation is eligible for a $500 Healthy Living tax credit. Children have been eligible for the credit since 2005.
“I’d also like to thank all of the local volunteers, community groups and public organizations and companies that helped make this possible,” said MacDonald.
Numerous community groups have contributed to the field’s development. The Strathlorne Forest Nursery, the Inverness regional minor baseball association parents, Nova Scotia Community College - Strait Campus, Human Resources Development Canada, Inverness Development Authority, Strait Regional School Board, and the Municipality of Inverness have all contributed to the $340,000 project.
