MABOU, NS - Inverness MLA and former Premier the Honourable Rodney MacDonald announced today his intention to resign his seat in the Legislature before the fall sitting of the House of Assembly.
"It has been an honour and a privilege to serve the residents of Inverness County as their Member of the Legislative Assembly for past 10 years. I leave knowing that much has been accomplished and that the County of Inverness is on the right track economically and socially with improved infrastructure and services," said Mr. MacDonald.
“The Progressive Conservative Party of Nova Scotia is in capable hands with interim leader Karen Casey and a strong, experienced Caucus. I want to thank the Party leadership, provincial constituency associations and party members, and those I have served with throughout the years for their support and confidence," added MacDonald.
MacDonald expressed a special thank you to his most loyal supporters and to the residents of the constituency of Inverness. "My supporters and the people of Inverness have been there for me every step of the way and I appreciate it," said the Progressive Conservative MLA.
MacDonald was first elected to the House of Assembly representing Inverness in July 1999 and was re-elected in August 2003, June 2006 and June 2009.
He served as Premier of Nova Scotia from February 24, 2006 until June 19, 2009 and held various cabinet portfolios including Intergovernmental Affairs, Tourism, Culture & Heritage and Immigration. He was Canada’s first Minister of Health Promotion. MacDonald's other responsibilities have included President of Executive Council, Member of Treasury and Policy Board, Minister responsible for the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation, Nova Scotia Sport & Recreation Commission, the Heritage Property Act and the Youth Secretariat.
