Halifax – Inverness MLA-elect Allan MacMaster and Progressive Conservative leader Karen Casey signaled their intention today to support the government’s bio mass agreement with local Port Hawkesbury company NewPage.
“We are pleased with the government’s decision to move forward with this project,” said Casey. “We have always taken the position that this is a worthwhile project that will create and preserve jobs in Nova Scotia.”
Casey was also quick to point out that it was the previous Progressive Conservative government that initially supported the NewPage bio energy project in principle before a full review was conducted through the Utility and Review Board (UARB).
At the time, it was endorsed by the UARB, although the Board stated it did not have the legal jurisdiction to make a formal and binding ruling.
It appears the government is making the decision to move forward.
In terms of the local impact, MacMaster feels this project is a good investment that will benefit his community and the environment in the future.
“I am certainly happy with this announcement and especially for the people of Port Hawkesbury,” said MacMaster. “Clean, green jobs are essential to our economy and this is a step in the right direction towards environmental and economic sustainability.”
