NORTH SYDNEY – Cape Breton North MLA Cecil Clarke is encouraging residents to celebrate the spirit of community by nominating a hard-working local volunteer for the 2010 Provincial Volunteer Awards.

Now in its 36th year, the ceremony is hosted by Recreation Nova Scotia in conjunction with Provincial Volunteer Week, and will take place at the Westin Nova Scotia on April 12. There, volunteers representing community organizations and grass-roots projects from across the province will be recognized for donating their time to build stronger neighbourhoods.

"This is an opportunity to truly recognize and thank those who volunteer their time to make incredible things happen in our communities," Clarke said Monday.

Nomination categories include youth, family, corporate and model community Volunteer of the Years awards; the deadline for submissions is March 4, 2010.

To obtain a nomination form, or to learn more about the Provincial Volunteer Awards, you can visit the Recreation Nova Scotia website at www.recreationns.ns.ca/volunteerawards, or phone (902) 425-1128.
