HALIFAX – Progressive Conservative Leader Karen Casey wants the public to know the contents of a letter written by Auditor General Jacques Lapointe to House Speaker Charlie Parker citing the names of all MLAs whose expense claims were deemed inappropriate and/or excessive.
Today, she put that request in writing, asking the Speaker to disclose Lapointe's letter in its entirety. Casey is also asking the Speaker to contact each individual MLA referenced in the letter prior to releasing the letter publicly.
"The premier said he supports releasing the names of the MLAs cited in the letter, and we are now asking that letter be made public," Casey said.
Although all current and former MLAs from the Progressive Conservative Caucus have come forward to claim inappropriate and/or excessive expenses, Casey said Nova Scotia taxpayers have a right to know how their taxpayers dollars are spent.
"It is in the best interest of all Nova Scotians to have the contents of the letter disclosed, and to ensure we have all of the facts needed to improve the process."
