NDP backtracking on diabetes decision

HALIFAX – Almost as soon as the NDP government decided they would no longer cover more than 100 test strips for non-insulin diabetes patients, they have reversed their decision.
In a bulletin to pharmacists, a new policy limiting non-insulin diabetes patients to only 100 blood glucose monitoring strips per year was communicated.
“Given that some diabetics need to test their blood sugar four times daily, this will leave many struggling to cover their supply for approximately eleven months of the year,” said Progressive Conservative Health critic and former Health Minister, Chris d’Entremont.
The policy was quickly reversed following outrage from the community.
“This is just another example of the NDP government acting without consultation or proper consideration. We have seen this government bring Nova Scotia to the brink of strike action by teachers and health care workers, we have seen them cancel a vital water highway service to Yarmouth without the facts,” said d’Entremont. “This recent about-face regarding blood glucose monitoring strips is just another indication the NDP government is continuing to act without thinking.”
