HALIFAX – Nova Scotia now has a solid foundation for major event promotion and attraction thanks to investments made by the Government of Canada and the Province of Nova Scotia in Events Nova Scotia.
“Nova Scotia is the economic hub of Atlantic Canada and the launch yesterday of Events Nova Scotia will help solidify our ability to successfully bid for and host major events in our province,” said Progressive Conservative Tourism, Culture and Heritage critic Keith Bain. “Events Nova Scotia and eventsnovascotia.com will allow for a more collaborative and strategic approach to attracting large scale events, whether it be sport, culture or entertainment.”
Preliminary work on Events Nova Scotia began in 2008. It will be funded jointly by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and the Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage, and led by Trade Centre Limited (TCL). To ensure participation from across the province, the thirteen Regional Development Authorities will work in concert with TCL to coordinate projects.
“Establishing Nova Scotia as the go-to province in Atlantic Canada for major events has many benefits. We will see spin off jobs created, and tourism increase through event attendance, and an increased awareness of what all the regions of our beautiful province have to offer,” said Bain. “In 2008, the previous government recognized that this initiative was important and I am pleased to see the funding allocated.”
