HALIFAX – Argyle MLA Chris d’Entremont says he is pleased with today's announcement concerning a $14 million federal-provincial investment in affordable housing upgrades in Halifax. It was an initiative he supported as the former Minister of Community Services.
The breakdown includes $11 million toward repairs and renovations at existing public housing units throughout the HRM, and an additional $3 million toward a new 21-unit complex for low-income seniors and adults with disabilities living in Spryfield.
“This is great news for the residents of Spryfield and other communities in the HRM," d'Entremont said Monday. "Having been involved in the development of this funding partnership, it is gratifying to see the current government follow through on this commitment."
Affordable housing was a key component of the Poverty Reduction Strategy released by the former Progressive Conservative government in April 2009.
“The federal Conservative government is committed to furthering these initiatives, and we are fortunate to have Peter MacKay's strong advocacy in the federal cabinet," d’Entremont said. "What it means is that 950 seniors and families will have improved living conditions in the HRM, and I am proud to have been a part of the government that created and signed this agreement."
