Southwestern NS hit again by NDP

TUSKET – While the Minister of Economic Development continues to bury his head in the sand, southwestern Nova Scotia continues to suffer at the hands of the NDP government.
“Quite frankly, I was shocked when I heard that the Economic Development Minister will essentially not be investing in economic development for our region in the immediate future,” said Argyle MLA Chris d’Entremont.
Economic Development Minister Percy Paris recently admitted his government will not be allocating any money for a development agency in southwestern Nova Scotia until the debts of the former agency, South West Shore Development Agency, are settled.
“This leaves southwestern Nova Scotia with no development agency to help promote our communities and increase tourism,” said d’Entremont. “Since SWSDA was a government funded agency and government has stated SWSDA will not receive any further funding from them, settling their debts could take many months or even years.”
SWSDA ceased operations last week and while the local municipalities are working towards wrapping up the outstanding SWSDA obligations, d’Entremont says things would likely move more quickly if the province was involved.
“I applaud the hard work of the local municipalities who are taking the initiative to move forward from SWSDA,” said d’Entremont. “I only hope the Minister and the NDP government follow their lead.”
