HALIFAX – Argyle Progressive Conservative MLA Chris d’Entremont will be part of the core team of cyclists riding in the fourth annual Heartland Tour, kicking off Saturday in Halifax at the Halifax Common.

“The HeartLand Tour is a great initiative that raises awareness about cardiovascular disease, including education on the easy steps all Nova Scotians can take to prevent it,” said d’Entremont, an avid cyclist. “This will be the second year in a row that I have taken part in the Tour and I am really looking forward to getting on my bike and promoting this important cause.”

The HeartLand Tour started in 2007 with a group of approximately 20 cyclists riding 1000 kilometres from Yarmouth to Sydney in eight days. They were delivering a message of change to reduce the risk of heart disease, which is something d’Entremont believes is vital.

“Prevention is key in the fight against cardiovascular disease. Making simple changes in your lifestyle such as eating healthier, and becoming more active can reduce your chances of developing the disease,” said d’Entremont, a former Health Minister.

The HeartLand Tour will be making stops in Halifax, Pictou County, Bridgewater, Truro, Sydney, Antigonish, Wolfville, and Yarmouth. For further information on the Tour, click here.
