Back to borrowing, back to debt climbing

HALIFAX – With one swift decision, Nova Scotians will continue to pay for the financial choices being made by the NDP government.

“The NDP government is borrowing $750-million USD, and breaking their election commitment to Nova Scotians to live within our means,” said Progressive Conservative Finance critic Allan MacMaster. “Instead of a responsible approach to balance the provincial budget, in one bond issue, the NDP have created a significant liability for Nova Scotians.”

With 457,000 Nova Scotians employed, MacMaster says the $750-million USD is equivalent to about three weeks pay for the average Nova Scotian.

“These are not just numbers on a screen - they will have very real consequences for us all. Borrowing money only shifts the burden onto the backs of future generations,” said MacMaster. “Instead of borrowing and spending, the government should look at cost saving measures to control the budget so the people of our province can enjoy a more prosperous future.”
