HALIFAX, NS – Progressive Conservative leader Jamie Baillie congratulated New Glasgow native Brigadier-General John James Grant upon his appointment as Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia.

“General Grant’s distinguished military service and his extensive community involvement will serve him well in this new position,” said Baillie. “His leadership and record of service are inspiring and I look forward to his contribution to public life in Nova Scotia.”

General Grant had a 50-year career in the Canadian Forces, serving in many leadership roles before his retirement in 1989. In addition, he has been active in many community organizations such as the Saint Andrew’s Society, the Festival of the Tartans, the New Glasgow Police Commission and the Army Cadet League of Canada.

Baillie also thanked the Honourable Mayann E. Francis for her dedication and service during her five-year term as Nova Scotia’s Lieutenant Governor.

“Her Honour has taken her role as the Queen’s representative in Nova Scotia very seriously and has worked tirelessly for and on behalf of all Nova Scotians,” said Baillie. “I wish her well as she takes on her next challenge.”
