HALIFAX - PC Leader and Cumberland South MLA Jamie Baillie says Oxford Frozen Foods’ plan to use natural gas at their plant in Oxford, Nova Scotia, is “true leadership”.

"Oxford Frozen Foods is taking proactive steps to deal with ever-higher energy costs. By converting to natural gas, the company will secure important jobs in rural Nova Scotia, and position the company for future opportunities," said Baillie.

Baillie also notes that natural gas is not only a cheaper source of energy, but it is also much cleaner, with emissions that are much lower than traditional coal-fired electric generation.

By bringing natural gas to Oxford, many other citizens and businesses of the town will now also have an opportunity to convert.

"Oxford Frozen Foods is showing true leadership by lowering costs and protecting our environment at the same time," said Baillie. "I congratulate them, and look forward to working with them to take full advantage of this new investment in the future."

Oxford Frozen Foods and Heritage Gas recently announced an agreement to bring natural gas to the company’s plant in Oxford and also make it available to other citizens and businesses in the area.
