Power company and NDP alliance getting in way of finding cheapest, greenest power
HALIFAX, NS - Progressive Conservative leader Jamie Baillie says reasonable concerns, here and in Newfoundland, show how badly the NDP is failing Nova Scotia families by refusing to do a proper cost-benefit study of the Muskrat Falls megaproject.
“We need a Nova Scotia solution to find the lowest cost green energy options and that includes comparing all possible alternatives and considering what Nova Scotia families can afford,” said Baillie. “It’s the government’s responsibility to set energy policy. It’s not good enough for the NDP to stand on the sidelines and wait for the power company or some other province to tell us what we should do."
Calls for a proper cost-benefit study of the megaproject in Nova Scotia are being echoed in Newfoundland, including in an open letter from former Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Brian Peckford and statements from his advisors, who are asking for a more thorough review of the project and its alternatives.
Baillie says the biggest obstacle to getting electricity that is affordable and green is the NDP and Nova Scotia Power’s blind determination to pursue expensive megaprojects without considering those who pay the bills.
Baillie says a PC government will put all megaprojects and electricity generation options through a thorough analysis and share the results with all Nova Scotians.
