HALIFAX, NS – Progressive Conservative MLA Eddie Orrell will be in Guysborough on January 24th to listen to the concerns of seniors and their care providers about the future of long-term care.

“The NDP government has stopped building long-term care beds in the province despite our aging population and all indicators pointing to the need for more beds,” said Orrell, a former health care provider. “I want to hear from seniors, their families and their care providers about the needs of the community when it comes to caring for our aging population.”

The wait list for a long-term care bed grew to 1,800 under the Dexter government, the highest it's been since the Department of Health started compiling weekly data in 2005. Even though some Nova Scotians are waiting up to 400 days for a bed, the NDP stopped building new beds.

“This is a big concern for Nova Scotians and we want to hear from anyone who has had difficulty securing the quality of care they deserve,” said Orrell.

Jamie Baillie, leader of the Progressive Conservative Party will also be hosting a regional town hall meeting that night in Antigonish and invites everyone to attend. The public meeting at the Antigonish Lions Club at 7pm on Tuesday, January 24th and will focus the hardship of supporting a family with today's high costs.
